You'll know it's going to be a bad day when you wake up in the morning to find out that you live your morning quite unusually. In this case, I do. In fact it happened to me yesterday. I woke up like normal. A morning class for me to teach would start at 9.35. I had set my alarm for 6.30 the night before. I had a list of things to prepare before the class, like buying a mini display converter cable (to connect the laptop with the projector) and ensuring that I would have the slideshow readily projected in the class before the students came in to the classroom.
I went to the store on my way to the university that morning. Inside the store I mindlessly picked the cable that I had seen the day before up off the shelf. The price tag was always there "Rp125000". I thought it was a bit pricey but I knew I couldn't do a presentation in the class without it. I then went to the register to pay and took just enough money out of my wallet. The shop lady asked me for confirmation that the price I had to pay was Rp125000, so I confirmed as I had known it. It took the lady a while behind the register to process the purchase. So I went ask her to check if everything was okay. I caught her opening a book that seemed to be of a list of products along with their prices. She then came to me with an apology followed by a corrected price. Apparently they put on the wrong price tag. The actual price was higher by Rp35000. I went "what?... but...". Oh, well I needed the cable so meh... whatever.
I left the store with a slight disappointment.
When I arrived at the school, students were all over the place. I went straight to my classroom... to find that the room was still in use. I arrived 30 mins early as I planned, because I would need to prepare the laptop and ensure that the projector would project whatever was on the laptop's screen to the wall. I waited with patience until I became impatient because my students already showed up. That means I couldn't do the preparation before the students came in to the classroom. We ended up going in to the classroom all together. It was taking me a while to figure out how to project the screen to the wall. Of course, since the morning started off badly, the laptop wouldn't cooperate with me either. Its screen wouldn't be projected to the wall. I found out that there was a bug with the PowerPoint software, not with the laptop's hardware. The class ended up moving on with the students watching a relatively small screen of the laptop while I was giving the lessons.
The day continues after the class. I was ordered to pick up my nephew at his school at scorching mid day. Phew~. I came up with a time efficiency idea that after the pick-up I could stop by an ATM centre to deposit some cash using the express deposit machine. The journey from my nephew's school to the ATM centre involved a lot of sweats and slight pain almost all over the skin because the day was so hot from the sun heat. I thought I got to do it for time efficiency. Again, as my morning started off badly, of course I arrived at the ATM centre to find out that the electricity went out. Hence dead machines. HELLO?! WHAT? Really?! Could this get any more stupid? Clearly it could! It freaking did.
I went back home with an absurd anger inside my head. I didn't even know to whom or what I was complaining. Apparently the electricity at home was out too. Gladly I had my phone battery quite loaded so I thought I could kill time by chatting and surfing the net. Guess what? The very unusually 3G connection on my phone d i d n o t w o r k... ... on normal days my 3G works as if I'm using a 4G connection, even faster than the home wi-fi. But since yesterday was not a normal day, it HAD to not work. Duh!
I ended up mad bored and fallen asleep with sweats in my bed while the sun heat was beating the air and wind outside.
The evening, though, things got back to normal. Phew.
